Arthroscopic evaluation of the ankle joint as part of an initial open reduction with internal fixation (ORIF) is not a new concept. Indeed, surgeons have discussed this in the literature for nearly three decades. Hamilton and colleagues even advocated for the use of arthroscopy as part of ankle ORIF in Podiatry Today more than a decade ago.

A team of investigators at Boston Children’s Hospital and Rhode Island Hospital received a Military Medical Research and Development Award from the Joint Warfighter Medical Research Program (JWMRP) in 2016 to advance the development of a novel treatment for post-traumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA)—the stiffness and swelling that can result from the loss of cartilage and increased inflammation due to a joint injury.

Foot health problems are common in the general population, and particularly so in people with rheumatic and musculoskeletal disorders (RMD). Several clinical guidelines state that people with RMDs should have access to foot health services, although service capacity is often limited. The current COVID-19 pandemic has increased the need for alternative ways to provide patient care.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common and complex neurological problem. Gait abnormalities are frequent in PD patients, and this increases the risk of falls. However, little is known about foot deformities and footwear in this vulnerable population. Here we investigate whether patients with PD use an appropriate shoe size and know if they have foot deformities or alterations.
