As foot and ankle surgeons, we are well-versed on the normal radiographic parameters of the foot and ankle. In our daily work, we discuss angles such as: Meary’s, calcaneal inclination, intermetatarsal, or Kite’s. We memorize these angles to understand radiographic abnormalities. Accordingly, our clinical analysis of the foot and ankle, with an understanding of normal joint range of motion and biomechanics, enables us to offer expertise. Each of these are important for deciding on treatment plans for our patients and surgical procedure selection.

With benefits similar to traditional training practices but with less work, BFR exercise is gaining ground in rehabilitation settings as well as athletic training rooms. The intentional manipulation of blood flow during exercise, commonly referred to as blood flow restriction (BFR) exercise, has piqued the interest of scientists and practitioners alike over the past two decades.

Lateral wedge insoles (LWI), standalone or with medial arch support (supported-LWI), have been thoroughly investigated for their effects on modifying gait biomechanics for people with knee osteoarthritis. However, plantar pressure distribution between these insole types has not been investigated and could provide insight towards insole prescription with concomitant foot symptoms taken into consideration.

The prevalence of illicit drug use among young people is high, with many being highly vulnerable to substance abuse. The nursing profession is not immune to the impacts of substance misuse. Knowing the current levels of consumption of illicit drugs in nursing students will allow for the introduction of preventive actions.
