The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted that podiatric physicians are an integral part of the health care system. Podiatrists are renowned for their lower extremity knowledge base and surgical expertise; however, in my observation, some podiatrists may feel they do not naturally belong in a comparable professional space with other medical doctors. At an early stage in a podiatrist's career, we become aware of limitations based on our scope of practice (in only treating the foot and ankle).

Lateral ankle sprains (LASs) often result in damage to the lateral ligaments of the ankle, reducing both static and dynamic ankle stability and resulting in a continuum of disability. Indeed, up to 80% of individuals who experience an initial LAS will sustain recurring injury, often developing chronic ankle instability (CAI), a condition characterized by pathomechanical, sensory-perceptual, and motor-behavioral impairments.

A complete definition of anatomical reference systems (ARS) for all bones of the foot and ankle complex is lacking. Using a morphological approach, we propose new ARS for these bones with the aim of being highly repeatable, consistent among individuals, clinically interpretable, and also suited for a sound kinematic description.

Breaking the chain of infection underpins infection prevention and control policy, however, teaching this content to undergraduate students studying health courses is challenging, with infection control frequently seen as boring. Concerningly, healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) are the most common preventable condition affecting hospitalized patients. Each year in Australia, some 180,000 patients suffer HAIs that increase patient morbidity and mortality risks, resulting in prolonged hospitalization, reduced quality of life, and increased healthcare costs for both patients and the healthcare system
