Avascular necrosis (AVN) of the talus, although rare in nature, provides considerable challenges to foot and ankle surgeons with management options contingent upon the severity of pathology and individualized functional outcomes for the patient. Owing to its unique structure, the talar surface is approximately 60 percent articular cartilage and provides no attachment sites for muscular or tendinous structures.

Footwear can affect balance and the risk of slips, trips, and falls. Various studies have reported that slippers are associated with increased risk of falls when compared to other footwear. The objective of this study was to characterize slipper-related injuries of the lower extremity treated at United States (US) hospital emergency departments (EDs).

There are limited evidence-based treatment options for adolescents with patellofemoral pain (PFP). Flat, flexible footwear have been shown to reduce patellofemoral joint loading and pain in adults with PFP. The efficacy of this intervention in adolescents with PFP is not established. The primary aim of this study is to determine the feasibility of conducting a large-scale randomised controlled trial (RCT) of the effect of flat, flexible school footwear, when compared to traditional school footwear, in adolescents with PFP.

Malignant soft tissue tumors of the foot and ankle are rare but diagnostic imaging and/or interventional biopsy are vital to establish the nature and grading of a suspicious tumor prior to definitive surgical intervention. The purpose of the study is to provide an account on how a symptomatic mass of the plantar aspect of the foot warranted a referral to a sarcoma center, highlighting the importance of having access to diagnostic imaging and a pathway to refer suspected cases to specialist centers.
