COVID-19 Update

Stay up to date with education, resources and information concerning the novel coronavirus, and resources that will help you overcome any associated obstacles.

Events

As the industry continues to monitor and adjust to COVID-19, we would like to assure you that MPI Chicago Area Chapter is doing the same. With the recent developments of COVID-19 and the CDC’s recommendations for events, we are hopeful that in the coming months we will have the opportunity to gather together again as a community. For all future events we will continue to monitor the situation, and we will keep you informed of any changes.

Volunteer Spotlight

Spotlight Award Winner - Justin Bell, Capgemini
(Holiday Party Committee)
“I wanted to meet more people in the events space here in Chicago so I asked around to see how I could meet more CMPs, since that’s a goal of mine. I signed up on my own and paid out-of-pocket for my first year of membership to find out more about this community. I really enjoyed the first time I met Caplin Lawrence and Micayla Diener from the Holiday Committee; their energy is the kind of energy I like being around when it comes to collaboration on creating experiences.” - Justin Bell

Spotlight Award Winner - Erika Johnson, Chicago History Museum (Trivia Committee)
Erika told us how she became involved with MPI: ”Emily Yao! She and I have worked together in one way or another for years. She recruited me.” Erika also said her most exciting MPI moment was “Seeing my final Trivia Night as co-chair become a reality – built from the ground up by an amazing committee.”

Editor’s Note: Formerly known as Engaged Member of the Month, the Spotlight Award honors committee members who have really been an all-star on their committee.

The best way to get the most out of your MPI-CAC membership is by joining a committee. It’s a great way to network, utilize your skills or challenge yourself to try something new! We know everyone has busy schedules, but many of our committees have a variety of tasks that can be done in just one hour a month!

Committees are always looking for members with leadership skills, creative mindsets and the drive to collaborate with fellow industry professionals. View committee list and committee interest form.

Vice President - Jeanne Hahn, Q Center

Director - Emily Yao, 360 Destination Group

Co-Chairs - Julie Knowles (AFR Furniture Rental) and Katrina Whaley (Reel Impact Audiovisual)

What is your committee responsible for? We are responsible for identifying, developing and implementing effective recruiting strategies to increase awareness and participation in the local MPI community. We are the front line, and the first impression of our board and members. We aim to recruit through a variety of industry educational conferences, industry meetings and networking opportunities.

How often does your committee meet? We meet the second Tuesday of every month, more often if necessary.

What are some tasks people do for your committee?

  • Talk to non-members about the benefits of joining MPI
  • Attend all the MPI-CAC events, to be a friendly face
  • Follow up with members who may have forgotten to renew their memberships

What makes your committee fun or stand out? It’s a really great group of people who see the value in MPI both personally and professionally and want to “pay it forward” to bring on new people – and give them the exact same, if not better, experience!
