Volunteer/Join a committee The best way to get the most out of your MPI-CAC membership is by joining a committee. It’s a great way to network, utilize your skills or challenge yourself to try something new! We know everyone has busy schedules, but many of our committees have a variety of tasks that can be done in just one hour a month! Committees are always looking for members with leadership skills, creative mindsets and the drive to collaborate with fellow industry professionals. Committee Spotlight – Marketing & Communications Vice President, Communications – Heather Warthen (H1 Marketing) Director of Marketing & Public Relations – Erika Johnson (Chicago History Museum) Co-Chairs – Eneyda Rodriguez, Mallory Mondloch and Liza Doyle What is your committee responsible for? The overall role of the committee is to help support the strategic goals of MPI-CAC for the fiscal year. As a committee we help to onboard new members by reviewing the committee process, procedures and available tools to achieve committee objectives. In addition, we create and distribute a monthly committee agenda to focus and support overall chapter goals. The Social Media Sub-Committee helps to schedule social media postings for our various platforms to help maintain a relationship and provide insightful and valuable information for our followers. The Event Marketing Sub-Committee helps support and guide all committees to market, publicize and garner attendance to their respective events. How often does your committee meet? The committee meets formally once a month to review MarComm business providing updates regarding event marketing for MPI-CAC scheduled events, social media efforts for the chapter and e-newsletter updates on industry-related news. Informally, we can meet more often to help one another with our individual tasks or projects. What are some tasks people do for your committee? The tasks vary based on the immediate need of the chapter or committee. For example, I (Eneyda Rodriguez) created a Smartsheet How-To for new members to the MarComm team. This has proven to be a useful tool as it contains information on how to navigate Smartsheet, tip and tricks including the most used MarComm documents available to help with our individual success. There are endless opportunities to help create and develop our leadership skills in a safe and trusting environment. What makes your committee fun or stand out? We have a group of professionals who are focused on their individual tasks; curious to understand more about the chapter and how we can positively affect change; transparent in our information-sharing based on individual experiences; always willing to take on more duties and help others for the betterment of the committee; all while having fun and laughing during our monthly calls. More specifically, we have great leadership in Heather and Erika, who are always available, encouraging and open to new ideas.
