Volunteer Spotlight
Member Spotlight Spotlight Award Winner – Tom Kokinakos, Inspired Catering and Events (Trivia Night Committee) How did you become involved in MPI? I was a recipient of the 2020 MPI Grant. I never knew this existed until a member told me about it, so I decided to apply and was granted it. What has been the most exciting moment or memorable thing that has happened since joining MPI? Considering I became a member a couple months before everything got shut down … what can be more memorable than that? Exciting? No! Memorable? Yes! What it did bring was a new and exciting way on how to take our current events like trivia and holiday [parties] and turn them into a virtual world. I really did learn a lot this past year being on the Trivia Committee. The other really exciting part was being asked to join the Holiday Party Committee for 2020 and then asked to be a co-chair for the 2021 Holiday Party, while staying active with trivia. It is an honor. Tell us something unique about you. Can I change this question a bit? I can’t think of anything unique. Ha! How about something I am passionate about? I am a huge advocate on changing people’s perceptions on Pit Bulls as I have one of my own, and he (Hank) is the most loving and loyal dog ever. Also, adopt don’t shop! Connect
Volunteer/Join a Committee The best way to get the most out of your MPI-CAC membership is by joining a committee. It’s a great way to network, utilize your skills or challenge yourself to try something new! We know everyone has busy schedules, but many of our committees have a variety of tasks that can be done in just one hour a month! Committees are always looking for members with leadership skills, creative mindsets and the drive to collaborate with fellow industry professionals. Committee Spotlight – Annual Awards Recognition Celebration Committee Vice President, Special Events – Tanya Mishigian Director of Special Events, Holiday Party and AARC – Jonathan Zani Co-Chairs – Michelle Dallas and Stephanie Swaney What is your committee responsible for? Our committee is responsible for planning the Annual Awards Recognition Celebration (AARC), which celebrates the contributions of our chapter’s hardest working volunteers and recognizes those who are making an impact on the meetings and events industry. The simple purpose is to just reward and recognize our members. How often does your committee meet? We meet every third Tuesday of the month. What are some tasks people do for your committee? The committee works closely with the Office of the President and Awards Selection Committee to develop appropriate programming, create the presentation and script and is also responsible for managing the committee budget and securing sponsorships for items outside of the budget. What makes your committee fun or stand out? We get to celebrate our peers! And after the year we have all had we deserve to celebrate. Also, we hosted the chapter's first-ever hybrid event so you can be a part of history.
