A mild weekend in the heart of the Central Valley sizzled Saturday night as the California Independent Oil Marketers Political Action Committee’s 16th Annual Destruction Derby came to a smashing conclusion. On Saturday, May 2, 2015, the same day of the much-awaited "Fight of the Century" between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao, CIOMA had its own main event... The wait has finally ended for Brian Decker (DeWitt Petroleum) who outlasted Reed Rienhart (Rinehart Oil) in an exhaustive and competitive final heat at this year’s 16th Annual Destruction Derby held at the Ledford Rodeo Grounds in Firebaugh, CA. There were a vast array of cars entered by a variety of marketers, suppliers, and friends of the association. Congressman David Valadao brought his family and was a final, fearless contender in the last round.
While the Saturday night Derby itself is the highlight of the weekend for many, Friday and Saturday before the Derby featured a host of member activities including a tri-tip member dinner Friday night sponsored by Idemitsu and Shuster Oil, bottomless mimosas and bloody mary’s served by the Maniaci Insurance team alongside Jay McKeeman and Dennis McCann's famous pancakes on Saturday morning, coupled with some family activities, and important networking throughout the weekend. The weekend was definitely a chance for members to reconnect and enjoy a fun-filled weekend with their families and friends.
The 16th Annual Destruction Derby remains a major fundraising effort on behalf of the CA Independent Oil Marketers Political Action Committee (CIOMPAC), the political arm of the CA Independent Oil Marketers Association (CIOMA). The dollars raised from the Destruction Derby in conjunction with other sources allows CIOMPAC to financially support members of the California Legislature and candidates for public office who are supportive of CIOMA’s legislative program or whom can wield influence over the issues of importance to the Association. Without the membership’s continued support of CIOMPAC through Derby and other events, the Association would not be a successful advocate for the industry.
If you did not get a chance to attend this year, we hope we will see you in 2016! This is a free member event and we encourage all your staff members and families to attend! Be sure to mark your calendar for the weekend of April 30, 2016. We hope to see you next year.
