Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

The National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS) is asking all retailers who either accept federal food stamps (SNAP), or are considering such acceptance, to comment on proposed rules that will significantly affect store eligibility or seriously complicate eligibility and ongoing compliance.  The comment deadline is May 18th, so quick action is needed.

For an overview and issues involved, click here for CIOMA's letter to the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service (FNS).

There are two ways to assist in this effort:

1) Click here for the NACS portal, assisting you to complete a letter commenting on the rules.  By following the instructions you will have completed comments objecting to the rule changes.

2) You can modify a short letter developed by CIOMA with your company particulars (you will need to convert the file from PDF to an editable file).  Click here for the draft letter.  Then you can follow instructions, click here, for directly submitting your letter on this rule adoption.

* Fill in the requisite information:

o In the "Comment" field, type: "Please see attached file."

o Under "category," select "Retailer"

* Upload your saved letter

* Click "continue" to advance to the next screen

o   On the next screen, review all the information you have entered to ensure there are no mistakes

* Certify that you have read and understood the official statement

* Click "Submit Comment" to file your comments with the Food and Nutrition Service!

Once you've filed, please forward Anna Ready a copy of your comments at aready@nacsonline.com.
