Dear California Land Surveyors Association Members,

I am excited to bring you the latest news and updates from the California Land Surveyors Association. I would like to highlight several key events and initiatives that have recently taken place within our surveying community over the past month.

1. Success at the Geomatics Conference at CalPoly Pomona

The recent Geomatics conference held at CalPoly Pomona was a resounding success. The event brought together students and professionals from the survey community and served as a platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and collaboration. It is heartening to see the surveying community coming together to nurture the future of our profession.

2. CLSA Executive Committee's Round Table Discussion

The CLSA executive committee had a productive round table discussion with members of the local surveying community. This event allowed for open dialogue, enabling us to address key concerns, share insights, and strengthen our bonds as a community. Your input and engagement are invaluable to us.

3. County Surveyor Panel: Monument Preservation and Street Resurfacing Challenges

The County Surveyor Panel recently met to discuss crucial topics, focusing on monument preservation within local offices. We understand the importance of preserving these vital horizontal and vertical control monuments. Additionally, the challenges faced by our community regarding the large volume of street resurfacing programs within each jurisdiction were discussed. These discussions are essential as we work to find solutions together.

4. Monument Preservation Guide in the Works

We are in the final stages of preparing a monument preservation guide. This guide will emphasize the significance of safeguarding survey monuments that may be impacted during both public and private infrastructure construction activities. Its primary audience will be City and County Engineers, as well as Building Officials. The guide will be a valuable resource to ensure our monuments are protected for future generations.

5. Submission Reminder for Chapters and Committee Reports

A gentle reminder to our chapters and committee members: please submit your reports for our next Board of Directors virtual meeting scheduled for Saturday, November 4. Your reports are essential for maintaining transparency and ensuring the smooth functioning of our association.

In closing, I would like to thank all of you for your continued dedication to the California Land Surveyors Association. Together, we are making strides in preserving our profession's heritage, supporting our future surveyors, and addressing the challenges facing our community.

I look forward to your continued involvement and contributions to our dynamic surveying community.

Best regards,
Kevin Hills, PLS
