We are thrilled to congratulate CMSA Chicago on their exceptional achievements at the 2024 CMSA Annual Conference, where they were honored with the Awards of Excellence in both "Publishing and Promotion" and "Public Policy & Advocacy." These prestigious awards recognize the chapter's outstanding contributions to advancing the field of case management and their dedication to education, advocacy and professional excellence.
Publishing and Promotion Excellence
In 2023, CMSA Chicago celebrated their 30th Chapter Anniversary with the publication of the fifth book in their acclaimed "Tales from the Front" series. What began as a special project for their 26th Annual Conference in 2019 has evolved into an annual tradition, with the series now boasting over 500 copies sold through Amazon and their conferences. These books are a collection of powerful essays by CMSA Chicago members, sharing memorable patient stories, innovative case management interventions and personal reflections on the motivations that drive them in their daily work.
This latest edition, with a foreword by Mindy Owen and an afterword by Nancy Skinner—both founding members of the CMSA Chicago chapter—truly captures the essence of the chapter’s rich history and the enduring impact of the case management profession. Each book in the series not only educates readers but also stands as a testament to the triumphs and challenges of case management, inspiring professionals across the field.
Public Policy & Advocacy Leadership
CMSA Chicago's commitment to advocacy was also recognized with the Award of Excellence in Public Policy & Advocacy. The chapter played a pivotal role in advancing the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) in Illinois, demonstrating a comprehensive and strategic approach to influencing policy and public opinion. In collaboration with the American Nurses Association (ANA) Illinois legislative committee, CMSA Chicago actively participated in ANA's Lobby Day, utilized legislative outreach tools, and engaged directly with state representatives and House leaders.
Their advocacy efforts extended to the public sphere through an online petition on Change.org and strategic media engagement, including articles in major local newspapers during Nurses’ Week. The chapter's social media campaign and educational initiatives at chapter events further underscored their dedication to public policy advocacy, making a significant impact on the future of nursing and case management in Illinois.
Congratulations to CMSA Chicago!
CMSA Chicago has set an inspiring example for chapters nationwide, demonstrating the power of publishing, promotion, and advocacy in advancing the profession of case management. We celebrate their well-deserved recognition and look forward to witnessing their continued success and contributions to the field. Congratulations, CMSA Chicago, on your outstanding achievements!
