Pat Stricker, RN, MEd
Senior Vice President, TCS Healthcare Technologies
Reviewing the multitude of healthcare articles and blogs
that discuss trends and offer predictions is one of my favorite things to do at
the beginning of each year. I know that may sound a little boring, but I like
to keep up on what is happening in the healthcare industry and where it may be
going in the near future. Since I spent the time to review the articles, I
thought I would summarize them here for you.
2016 Technology Trends and Predictions
The following are the trends and predictions related to
technology.
The Size of Digital Technology. The size of the cloud is
getting to be enormous. In 2015, the world produced data equal to 120,000
times the total of all previously written words in history! This data will
be stored in the "cloud" and accessible to a growing range of devices. Click below to read more.

Did you know? Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and
women. While Americans of all backgrounds can be at risk for heart
disease, African American men, especially those who live in the
southeast region of the United States, are at the highest risk for heart
disease. During American Heart Month, read more from the CDC about even
small lifestyle changes that can make a big difference.

million consumers selecting plans or being automatically re-enrolled
across all states, either through the HealthCare.gov platform or a
State-based Marketplace, HHS Secretary Sylvia M. Burwell announced on February 4. This does not include about 400,000 people who signed up on the

The Utilization Management Regulatory & Market Trends: 2016 Annual Report released by RegQuest illuminates the complex web of rules, policies and
practices that affect how medical care is actually paid for and who is impacted
in the process. Importantly, the report highlights how patients and attending
providers appeal adverse benefit determinations. As the first update on this
topic in over a decade, the report is a must-read for health care
professionals, compliance staff, benefit administrators, case managers and
other stakeholders who require a comprehensive understanding of medial
management regulations, such as utilization management. For a complimentary
