CMSA Chicago continued its series of "tales from the front" anthology books with the third installment, titled Case Management : Elevate, Educate and Empower. Patterned after the famous Chicken Soup for the Soul series, they have collected stories from case managers across the care continuum, with more than 30 contributions in this edition alone. These essays are an effective way to disseminate process improvements and lessons learned from day-to-day practice. This series gives first-time authors an opportunity to "get published" with support from published authors. Each one of the entries is a triumph for the authors and for case management as a profession! Plus, the book is available on Amazon, which opens up the potential for educating not only practicing case managers, but the public about what CMs do and why we do it. Congratulations, CMSA Chicago!
Since March 2020, due to limitations and restrictions secondary to the COVID pandemic, CMSA chapters sought ways to continue to provide education, collaboration and networking for its members, sponsors and speakers while making new connections and increasing membership. Six chapters pooled their resources to form a coalition, representing NYC, Central NJ, Mid-Atlantic, LI, the Capital Region and Hudson Valley. In 2021, this coalition held nine virtual events. Other chapters reached out for information on how the program was developed. They continue to provide virtual programs and have moved to an independent program format and website to conserve additional finances and resources. The coalition expanded to a seventh chapter in November 2021, with the addition of the Pittsburgh chapter, and are now the CMSA Northeastern Regional Coalition. They continue to work with each other and for each other. Congratulations, CMSA Northeastern Regional Coalition!
The CMSA National Office is excited to announce that Kelly Castady has joined the team as chapter relations manager. Kelly’s main areas of responsibility include chapter development and editorial oversight. She will be working with each CMSA chapter to assist as needed and facilitate consistent communication and growth.
When asked to tell us about herself, she shared this: “I have spent most of my career working in the hospitality industry, spending 12 years with Hyatt hotels and resorts in various marketing and public relations positions and look forward to bringing that knowledge to this role. I love getting creative in problem solving, brainstorming new ideas and developing streamlined ways of communicating the message and voice of an organization. On a more personal note, I have two kids (Oliver 10 and Isla 7), and our family has moved across the country five times in the past 12 years for my husband’s hotel management career. Our move to Nashville in June 2020 was our final move, and we have put roots down just east of the city. Additionally, I am a competitive equestrian in show jumping, which is something I have done since I was about 9 years old. I have a horse named Levi, and our family has a goldendoodle puppy named Penny.”
