Ethical Considerations in Surrogate Decision Making: Family Meeting Guide

Thursday, May 16 at 12 p.m. Eastern

Pre-Approved CEs: 1 Hour RN, SW, and CCM ETHICS

Surrogate decision making raises many ethical issues. In all settings, decisions regarding goals of care often must be made by either elected proxies or next-of-kin on behalf of patients. These conversations, often involving high stakes and occurring in high states of arousal, are rife with ethical concerns. This session will present a framework for recognizing and managing ethical considerations, including legal topics, cultural issues and self-awareness of implicit bias and assumptions, and offer a practical guide to conducting holistic, patient-centric and ethically sound meetings.

Presenter: Alixis Van Horn, RN, MSN, APRN, ACPHN

Free to members. $40 for non-members.

Chapter Connection

CMSA of Eastern Oklahoma was proud to host their 15th Annual Conference of Denim, Diamonds & Discharges at The Osage Casino Hotel & Conference Center on Wednesday May 8th, 2024. We began our conference with a Welcome Event the night of the seventh and then CMSA National President Dr. Colleen Morley started the day off right with her breakfast presentation "Electronic Roadtrip." We had a full house and a total of 6 CEUs. Everyone had a great time decorating for the theme and dressing the part. We all are looking forward to a great time next year!
