Pat Stricker, RN, MEd Senior Vice President, TCS Healthcare Technologies Usually you think looking for a new software involves just that – evaluating different software products to find the one that best fits your needs. While that is true, you have to realize that you are also selecting a vendor and you need to be sure they also fit your needs. The product and vendor come as a "package." Think of the software system as the "heart" of your program. If you were having heart problems that limited your ability to perform your normal daily activities and continued to worsen, even with medications and treatments (work-arounds), would that be acceptable? Or might you, at some point, consider having a heart transplant in order to improve and save your life? While this is a little dramatic, it does correlate with how important it is for your business to find the right software system (the "heart" of your program), as well as the right vendor (the surgeon) to help revive and improve our business processes.

-Final rule prohibits discrimination based on race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability; enhances language assistance for individuals with limited English proficiency; and protects individuals with disabilities- The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on May 13 issued a final rule to advance health equity and reduce health care disparities. Under the rule, individuals are protected from discrimination in health care on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, disability and sex, including discrimination based on pregnancy, gender identity and sex stereotyping. In addition to implementing Section 1557’s prohibition on sex discrimination, the final rule also enhances language assistance for people with limited English proficiency and helps to ensure effective communication for individuals with disabilities. The protections in the final rule and Section 1557 regarding individuals’ rights and the responsibilities of many health insurers, hospitals, and health plans administered by or receiving federal funds from HHS build on existing federal civil rights laws to advance protections for underserved, underinsured, and often excluded populations.
