Looking to the Future

Fast forward a few years, and we all just finished another successful Legislative Days. Now I’m comfortable with the whole process and look forward to it for years to come. Now I can help others prepare to participate and do good things. And the good that is derived from personally meeting with our legislators cannot be overstated. It is one of the best things we do to make a difference. And I probably would have never done it if it were not for someone like Baron coaching and encouraging me. I feel an obligation to now do the same for others.

And that is where we need you.

If you are familiar with Legislative Days, or Expo, or our Board of Directors meetings, please look around for those that may not be. I remember when I first started getting involved in PCOC. It was intimidating. I didn’t know anyone. I didn’t understand what was going on. I remember thinking ‘What’s Club 99?’. I didn’t know what to wear when visiting the capitol. I had no idea what committee meetings I should join. I didn’t know what to expect from the BOD. "Why is Expo called ‘Expo’ and how is it different?" I didn’t want to look silly because of my ignorance.

I was so encouraged to see how many first-time attendees there were at Legislative Days. Let’s all look out for those that are getting involved and help in any way we can to ensure they know we are glad they are there and that they can reach out to us if they have any questions or need anything. I had the opportunity to talk to a first-time Legislative Days attendee at our open house this week. He had lots of questions, and I could tell he appreciated having some idea of what to expect. We can all help with that.

If you are just getting into PCOC and have questions, or if you will be attending a BOD for the first time, (hope you can make it to Expo!), if you would like to be paired up with a ‘veteran’ just let me know. I’ll do my best to get you matched up with someone that will take you under their wing and help you get acclimated.

We have an amazing association, and it will only get stronger as we continue to do the right things right.

Here are 4 action items you can do to help:

  1. Come to every BOD and get involved.
  2. Attend your District meetings and get involved.
  3. Invite and encourage other members to come to District Meetings and the BOD’s.
  4. Reach out to non-members and enthusiastically share the benefits of PCOC with them and encourage them to join. Remember, a sale happens when there is a transfer of enthusiasm. That can only happen if you are first enthused.

We had a fantastic turnout for our Open House at our new office. It looks incredible. If you have not yet checked it out, you should try to as soon as possible. It’s truly impressive.

And, by the way, that large mural that you see as you come in the door of the PCOC office? That was painted by Baron’s wife, Rhonda McDonald and her business partner.

Working together, we can all help lead our association to an even better place.

Because leaders lead. That’s what they do.

If you have leadership ideas you’d like to share, or a topic you’d like to see explored in a future PCOC Leadership Lens, I’d love to hear from you.

All the best!
