The California Department of Pesticide Regulation (DPR) has recently published two enforcement guidance documents regarding the use of neonicotinoids, effective in 2025. These documents primarily focus on restrictions for applications to landscape plants, with several key points outlined for the pest management industry:
- All structural uses (interior and exterior) including to structural elements away from the building are not addressed in these letters
- That means that any application under any of the SPCB licenses to the structure or structural elements should be allowed
- Only applications to plants are covered in this enforcement action
- Only certified applicators (FR and OPR) are allowed to apply neonics to landscape plants for the control of structural pests (i.e. Spiders or ants)
- If you are applying under the DPR QAL/QAL Cat A or B, then the person who is applying the product must be the licensee not a "trained handler"
