Two years after I graduated from School of Pharmacy, University of Lagos Akoka, Nigeria, I joined a Logistics and Supply Chain Organization called General and Health Logistics International Limited (GHLI-L) in February 2013 as Drug Logistics Officer.

My role as Drug Logistics Officer was to ensure proper warehousing, distribution, order fulfillment and inventory management of health commodities for our clients. Although, this role was challenging for me in the first six months, I learned fast through training and experienced colleagues. I also took short courses and read materials online to increase my knowledge and skills in Supply Chain management.

My interest and passion for the supply chain profession continued to increase, and I desired to learn more about  SCM especially in warehousing, distribution, transportation, Inventory management and procurement of health commodities, to enable me to become more effective in these areas and add value to the company since the company was also growing at a fast pace.

I saw the need to improve my career and acquired more expertise in SCM by joining relevant professional bodies where I can read SCM best practices, learn from professionals’ experiences, network, and connect with other professionals; these bodies also provided platforms for me to contribute, share my own experience, knowledge and add value as a member.

In October 2017, during my search for certificate courses on SCM online, I read about Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) on the CSCMP website, I knew it was the right community for professionals, I was very happy to know I could become a member and take the CSCMP SCPro™ certification exam.

I also realized that becoming a member of the CSCMP will broaden my network with other professionals and improve my knowledge in the SCM field. I registered as a Member in November 2017, and I have enjoyed reading the CSCMP quarterly magazine and CSCMP Supply Chain SmartBrief, which keep me updated on recent news and trends in Supply Chain Industry.

After attending the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals’ (CSCMP) webinar: Training and Development with CSCMP with Nichole Mumford on 24, July 2018, I got inspired and motivated as she answered all the questions satisfactorily that helped in my decision to take the exam in August 2018.

Achieving CSCMP SCPro™ Level One certification was a major milestone and a dream come true for me. The knowledge gained, and the certification, have helped me to demonstrate a high level of competency in my work, making me more empowered and better equipped in my new role as Logistics/Business Development Specialist.

I love CSCMP because once you become a member there are lots of opportunities for professionals to learn about best practices, innovations, and to connect with other professionals in the SC industry.  I am very proud to be a CSCMP member.

Nicholas J LaHowchic said, and I quote “The journey to twenty-first century supply chain management begins with you. Learn, explore, execute, excel!” so the learning does not end here for me. To continually improve on my functional and human operating skills and to better coach individuals and lead as a professional, I need to continuously explore all the rich resources on the CSCMP websites, participate actively by contributing my ideas and applying the knowledge gained in Supply Chain, attend conferences, read CSCMP certification collection materials for best SCM practices and look for volunteer opportunities to enable me give back to the CSCMP community.

I greatly appreciate the encouragement, support and the opportunities CSCMP has provided me in my career and endeavour to become CSCMP SCPro™ certified and a better professional.
