Broward College Launch Center for Supply Chain Education
Program to continue the success of the LINCS grant
The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP), in partnership with Broward College, has launched the Center for Supply Chain Education. This new institute, located at the Judson A. Samuels South Campus, will continue the programmatic success achieved under the LINCS (Leveraging, Integrating, Networking, and Coordinating Supplies) program. The turnkey certification program is now available to colleges, universities, and businesses to train and certify supply chain professionals across the country.
“Companies in every industry need people who understand the importance of managing their supply chain. Supply chain professionals can have a significant impact on a company’s bottom line. That is why our supply chain program, under the LINCS grant, was so popular,” said Russell McCaffery, dean of Industry, Manufacturing, Construction and Transportation at Broward College. “More than ever, companies need skilled supply chain employees to expand their businesses globally. It was a seamless decision to continue offering our training, and to partner with CSCMP to give students access to the SCPro™ Fundamentals Certifications.”
The LINCS grant supported the creation of a national supply chain management education and certification program administered by a consortium of nine colleges and three universities and led by a national team from Broward College. The program was funded by a $24.5 million U.S. Department of Labor TAACCCT grant. Through LINCS, Broward College established a track record of excellence with 565 students earning 1,753 credentials over four years. Building on the success of the grant, Broward College has developed a comprehensive program to train entry and mid-level supply chain teams to operate at the highest level of effectiveness. The Center for Supply Chain Education offers eight areas of training which lead to professional certification.
"CSCMP is thrilled to partner with Broward College for the official launch of SCPro™ Fundamentals,” said CSCMP President and CEO Rick Blasgen. "The most competitive companies invest in training and skill development so their employees can keep pace with a rapidly changing industry. SCPro™ Fundamentals addresses these ever-changing needs, offering much-needed education and certifications for entry to mid-level supply chain management professionals."
Preparation for these certifications is offered as non-credit workshops or credit courses through the College. The Center also can provide higher education institutions and employers with a customized, 30-hour online program to help train professionals at their own pace. Individuals who complete courses will be eligible to take the SCPro™ Fundamentals Certifications exam via CSCMP.
In a continually expanding global marketplace, supply chain management is one of the fast-growing professions. Businesses across the nation need supply chain personnel who can operate at the highest level of effectiveness. According to Labor Insight Jobs (Burning Glass Technologies), there are currently 56,673 open postings in Supply Chain in the United States and the number is expected to continue increasing to meet marketplace demands.
