Facing greater pressure to be more sustainable, companies are looking for ways to make their supply chains more environmentally friendly. The best practices listed here can help. Long gone are the days when corporate sustainability was seen as a concern chiefly for companies that branded themselves as “green” or “socially conscious.” Corporate sustainability has now become mainstream in both the service and manufacturing sectors. Since 2000, there has been much published in both the academic and business press on various logistics sustainability topics.1 Some of that published work includes case studies of companies that initiated ways to reduce energy consumption or waste,2 to emit lower levels of pollution,3 increase recycling or reuse of products and packaging,4 and “do more with less.”5 In some instances, companies themselves have published guides to sustainability for use by others to develop their own sustainability programs. For example, Nike has created a guidebook on the principles of circular design, supplemented by case studies from itself and other companies, and makes it freely available on its website.6

CSCMP and Vector have teamed up to survey logistics professionals to better understand what is working vs. not working in their yard management efforts. This new survey will gather information on the industry’s state of yard management. From our research, yard management is one of those things that is important but commonly overlooked. This is no more than a 3-minute, 10-question survey. Anyone who completes the survey will receive a copy of the final report as well as a $10 Starbucks eGift card and an entry raffle for a $100 Amazon eGift card (1 Amazon winner out of every 100 entries). Chicago Roundtable "I recently joined this year (2022), and the CFO of Becker Logistics suggested it. My advice is to network. Meet 20-50 new people each and every day, then follow up and see how you can serve them. If we all follow this way of Being, there would be no worries, no fear, and no doubt. There would only be love."

Rocky Mountain Roundtable "I am the Director of Sales and Special Projects for Evans Network of Companies. We are the largest drayman in the US and run mostly intermodal equipment. I joined CSCMP to have an ear to the ground in the Supply Chain. I see that there are not many truckers participating, and I think that my experience in trucking could offer value to this group and vice versa."

In April 2022, CSCMP and the CSCMP Ukraine Roundtable established the CSCMP Talent Center (recently renamed CSCMP's Center for Advancement of Talent & Training or CATT) Ukraine Logistics Operations Relief Fund to support the collection and distribution of medical and food relief to the millions of people affected by the war in Ukraine. The CSCMP Ukraine Roundtable is made up of supply chain professionals who invest their volunteer time in promoting and delivering educational events. With the war in Ukraine, they turned to serving the needs of people by collaborating with pre-qualified logistics service providers delivering food, clothing, and medicine. We stand with our CSCMP Roundtable community in Ukraine, our members, friends, and colleagues and support their right to live peacefully in a sovereign, free country without the threat of coercion. The CSCMP Ukraine Logistics Operations Relief Fund remains open for ongoing tax-deductible contributions to support the logistics relief operations in war-ravaged Ukraine. Contribute to the fund today. Learn more about CSCMP's new Center for Advancement of Talent & Training (CATT).
