Help Shape the Future of Supply Chain Talent
  
A message from Mark Baxa, CSCMP President and CEO.
 
With the launch of our new Training-to-Jobs (T2J) initiative, the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals’ (CSCMP) is well on its way to addressing one of the biggest challenges in supply chain today: the shortage of talent. The initiative is part of the new Center for the Advancement in Talent & Training (CATT) and our goal to raise $5 million in donations by 2025 to advance and shape the future of supply chain talent.
 
With the help of our contributors, this first effort focuses on developing educational content at the high school level. It can either be taught in the classroom or offered as self-paced coursework. We hope to attract and serve both high school students who plan to head right into a career after they graduate and those who plan to attend a higher education college or university.
 
In addition to tackling the pain points that affect supply chain labor concerns, we are also using this initiative to reach out to communities that have untapped potential. CATT will combine career training and career pathways for all by providing accessible continuing education and professional development opportunities.
 
We’ll officially launch the Training-to-Jobs initiative in February 2023 in St. Louis, Missouri. We are working with partners in the St. Louis Public Schools Career and Technical Education (CTE) program, as well as with organizations like The Covering House, Rung for Women, Veterans Community Project, St. Louis Youth Development Collaborative, the Education Development Center’s STEM-Ops program, and more.
 
If you haven’t already, please consider a donation to support our vision to:
  • Provide pre-built curriculum focused on supply chain fundamentals with certificates for successful completion.
  • Create customized supply chain training to untapped populations, alongside our university partners.
  • Collaborate with our local, regional, and national corporate members, as well as small/mid-sized companies within our communities, to help support the learning experiences with projects and internships.
  • Fully engage our local companies and organizations to forge pathways toward employment and competitive benefits with commensurate wages for our graduates upon completion of the training.
  • Encourage our corporate, organizational, and academic collaborators to be part of the creative process, helping us curate and execute a program which will foster a safe, inclusive, unique learning environment.
  • Continuously provide safe and inclusive learning and work environments while concurrently innovating our programing.
  • Engage and utilize the expertise of our local, regional, and national educational, organizational,
    and governmental resources to expand our impact through practical and purposeful growth strategies.
There are five contribution levels ranging from individual to platinum. The Center is also offering a naming opportunity. The Rising Risk of Cybercrime in the Supply Chain︱SCQ Q3
  
In recent years, the logistics sector has become an increasingly tempting target for cybercriminals for a whole host of reasons. The first is that logistics is one of the most profitable industries worldwide and is an important part of the economy, making it a logical focus for criminals seeking to make a big disruptive impact. Second, although logistics is focused on the physical movement of goods, it also has a big digital footprint. The logistics component of today’s supply chain has come to rely on a significant volume of data processing and information sharing. For example, industry forms that were traditionally paper-based – such as invoices, export compliance certificates, and bills of lading – are now digital. Consequently, fleet operators are now sharing more data digitally with partners and vendors than ever before, which opens them up to more cyber risks. Finally, the cargo supply chain consists of many disparate parties that have varying levels of cybersecurity systems in place. This presents cybercriminals with an opportunity to identify and exploit the weak links in the network.

CSCMP Remembers George Gecowets︱1933 - 2022
  
Distinguished Service Award Recipient and Supply Chain Hall of Fame Honoree

George Gecowets joined the National Council of Physical Distribution Management (now Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals) in 1964. He was appointed to the executive committee in 1965 and named the organization’s first full-time executive director in 1970. In 1988, he was acknowledged as CSCMP's Distinguished Service Award winner and entered into supply chain's highest honor, the CSCMP Supply Chain Hall of Fame.

At the time of his receipt of the Distinguished Service Award, George Gecowets was the executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Council of Logistics Management (CLM). In 1970, he became the first full-time executive director of CLM and increased membership by over 5,000. His many contributions to the logistics industry include his role in awarding contracts for CLM's first true research.

In his continuing efforts to make young people aware of career opportunities in the industry, he was instrumental in establishing research grants, scholarships, and career awareness programs, including student internships and an employment clearinghouse service. The logistics profession would not be where it is today without his continuous dedication and valuable advice and counsel. Mr. Gecowets retired as executive vice president and chief operating officer of CSCMP in 2001.

CSCMP is committed to preserving the history of some of the greatest, life-changing innovations and inventions from around the world, celebrating the astounding practitioners and academics who have made the supply chain management industry what it is today. Help us recognize and honor a worthy inductee to the Supply Chain Hall of Fame. 

To be eligible, each Hall of Fame inductee must have at least 20 years in supply chain and logistics fields and fall under one of the following categories: Industry Transformers, Knowledge Creators & Communicators, and Industry Leaders/Practitioners.

Distinguished Service Award
The Distinguished Service Award is the industry's most prestigious honor, bestowed upon an individual for significant achievements in the logistics and supply chain management industry. Presented annually, the award was instituted in 1965 as a tribute to logistics pioneer John Drury Sheahan.
 
Any individual who has made significant contributions to the fields of logistics and supply chain management are eligible to receive the Distinguished Service Award. Check out the criteria and guidelines.
 
Gail Rutkowski Transportation Excellence Award
The Gail Rutkowski Transportation Excellence Award (GR-TEA) recognizes companies or individuals that have excelled in using their knowledge, connections, and industry expertise to educate, support, and create long-term impact through excellence in transportation-related fields.
 
The GR-TEA is named for the former Executive Director of NASSTRAC, Gail Rutkowski who has dedicated a lifetime of service to the trade as a shipper, carrier representative and consultant; also serving as a champion and advocate of the transportation industry. Learn more about the eligibility criteria.
 
Supply Chain Innovation Award
The Supply Chain Innovation Award (SCIA) recognizes teams who have demonstrated excellence, innovation, and return on investment for a significant supply chain challenge.

To participate in this esteemed competition, your team needs to submit a case study on your innovation. If selected as a finalist, your supply chain innovation will serve to educate and provide valuable insights, lessons, and applicable takeaways via a dedicated presentation at EDGE 2023, as well as be featured on the CSCMP and SupplyChainBrain websites. Check out criteria and guidelines.
 
Emerging Leader Award
CSCMP’s Emerging Leader Award (ELA) recognizes up-and-coming leaders in the supply chain management field for their meaningful contributions to the profession.
 
To qualify, the nominee must be 32 years of age or under at the time of submission and an active member of CSCMP. Help us acknowledge deserving candidates by nominating an outstanding young professional you know! Plan now to submit your nomination.
 
Supply Chain Sustainability Award
CSCMP’s Sustainable Supply Chain Committee recognizes and celebrates the work that supply chain leaders are doing to drive positive social, environmental, and economic impact. As the largest organization for Supply Chain Professionals, the award holds significant value to recipients.
 
All award recipients must be CSCMP members in order to be eligible. A team or individual may self-nominate or be nominated by a third-party. Enjoy this great article on supply chain sustainability and learn a little more about CSCMP Board Vice Chair, CSCMP Sustainable Supply Chain Committee Member, and Founder & CEO of Concordia Supply Chain Group LLC, Donna Palumbo-Miele.
 
Dr. Donna Palumbo-Miele was introduced to the supply chain and entrepreneurship early in life by her immigrant parents. She valued that time spent learning about supply chains and customer service, which ultimately has led to her own success.
 
Donna is an Associate Professor of Practice and teaches courses focused on corporate social responsibility (CSR) at Virginia Tech’s Master of Natural Resources (Online) program. Her career in supply chain management began in a consulting capacity with Ernst & Young, where she helped organizations advance their supply chain technology. She also gained experience in logistics, sourcing, and procurement for the e-commerce, retail, and entertainment industries. It was during this time that Donna saw the potential for suppliers to be environmental stewards through partnership and collaboration. Now, as the founder, president, and chief operating officer of Concordia Supply Chain Group LLC, Donna supports diverse suppliers as they advance their work and strategies in ESG.

According to the November Logistics Manager’s Index Report®, the overall index is 53.6, falling from October’s reading of 57.9 and down for the second consecutive month. One of the drivers behind the overall drop is the dip in inventory levels and costs as firms not only shift inventories downstream but begin to wind them down through holiday sales. Ukraine Logistics Operations Relief Fund Update
In April 2022, CSCMP and the CSCMP Ukraine Roundtable established the CSCMP Talent Center (recently renamed CSCMP's Center for Advancement of Talent & Training or CATT) Ukraine Logistics Operations Relief Fund to support the collection and distribution of medical and food relief to the millions of people affected by the war in Ukraine. The CSCMP Ukraine Roundtable is made up of supply chain professionals who invest their volunteer time in promoting and delivering educational events. With the war in Ukraine, they turned to serving the needs of people by collaborating with pre-qualified logistics service providers delivering food, clothing and medicine.
 
We're happy to announce that $15,000 in donations have been delivered to date, which has greatly helped assist with supporting logistics operations that are accountable for collecting and distributing life sustaining food, feed, supplies and medicines. Thank you to all who helped the CSCMP Talent Center Ukraine Logistics Operations Relief Fund and enabled the Roundtable to ensure medical and food relief reached the affected people of Ukraine.
