Sarah Thomas changed the game in the world’s most quintessential male-dominated sport—football—when she became the first female NFL official. Now she’s inspiring others to dream big and believe anything is possible. No stranger to breaking barriers, Sarah was the first female official ever to work a major college football game, the first to officiate a bowl game and the first to officiate in a Big Ten stadium. After her first NFL game on September 13, 2015, between the Kansas City Chiefs and Houston Texans, Sarah’s hat, whistle, and flag were placed on display at the NFL Hall of Fame to serve as a testament to this historic achievement. Sarah also made post-season history by being named Down Judge for the Patriots/Chargers 2019 playoff game. Since her addition to the NFL's roster of officials, Sarah has become a trail-blazing inspiration to women everywhere, embodying the notions of hard work and a belief in one’s self—key ingredients to breaking barriers. With the same decisive focus that it takes to make a split-second call on the field, Sarah will discuss: • Key insights on overcoming adversity – and the odds • Finding your passion while maintaining a work-life balance • Decision-making • Not only succeeding as a female in a male-dominated industry but achieving breakthrough success for males and females alike Join Sarah and more than 3,000 supply chain professionals at supply chain's premier event™ in Anaheim, California by registering today! A special thank you to CSCMP Corporate Member Bain & Company for contributing this article. Companies that invest in digitizing operations can deliver efficiency gains of up to 15%–20% and spark supply chain innovation. Those benefits have prompted many companies to rush into a digital operations makeover. After all, no one wants to be the last to benefit from new technologies. Leadership teams are discovering, however, that the journey is more complicated than they initially thought. For large companies, a digital transformation can involve replacing hundreds of millions of dollars in assets and can take between four and six years to complete. In our experience, two-thirds of companies that tackle a digital transformation go over budget or fail to deliver the expected benefits. The most common mistake leadership teams make is to start investing before laying the foundations required for a digital transformation to succeed. Specifically, they neglect two important steps: devising an efficient manufacturing strategy and putting in place the right processes and people for a digital operations model. Companies that skip those steps in haste are likely to suffer from higher costs and undermine the benefits of their investments. Why? Once companies start investing in digital operations, it becomes increasingly difficult to go back to square one and rejigger the organization or the strategy without triggering extra costs. As a result, they end up in a digital operations “doom loop” of spiraling costs. Visit https://www.bain.com/insights/how-to-avoid-the-digital-operations-doom-loop/ to view the full article online.
