Welcome to the fourth quarter of 2020. Who would or could have envisioned our current environment merely a year ago. CSCMP just completed our first ever, virtual EDGE Supply Chain Conference. It represents a real testimony to how supply chains can pivot, be resilient, and alter their course to satisfy the needs of our customers when thrown the largest curveball we've ever seen. By most if not all evaluations, it was quite successful, and we greatly appreciate our speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, volunteers, and of course attendees and members who participated. Our staff worked so hard to bring the best possible content, networking, and interactive experiences possible. This year marked our 58th annual conference and now – when it’s so critical to stay connected – we invite you to maintain your CSCMP involvement. Obviously, the past few months have mobilized and challenged us – probably more than ever before; but I don’t want to talk about “new normals,” “we’re in this together,” or toilet paper. If you’re like me, you’re tired of hearing about it, and little more can be said. The fact is, this is what we do … this is our reality. We’re resilient, we respond to challenges, and we solve complex problems. It should come as no surprise to anyone that we, as a profession, rose to the occasion. We’re the people who physically make it happen for the consumers’ benefit and wellbeing. You’ve probably heard me say it several times before, but, in spite of advances in data and technology, Supply Chain is still a people business. As an organization, CSCMP exists to CONNECT, EDUCATE and DEVELOP, but we also sit on the leading edge as a witness to and shaper of supply chain history. So how do we invest in ourselves and those that work with us? Well one way is to maintain a strong relationship with your professional Association, your CSCMP. We have professional development for every stage of one's career, I invite you to give it a try, you’ll be impressed. Supply Chain leadership? We boast leaders who will definitely talk with you or your associates about how to navigate the supply chain profession. I've seen leaders who have decades of experience talk with students and young professionals and really cultivate strong relationships. As I mentioned, it's a people business supplemented by the greatest content ever assembled through CSCMP. We can offer the connections you need throughout your career. CSCMP members will engage with other CSCMP members. Join us. When CSCMP says that we take our job as caretaker of the Supply Chain Industry very seriously, what we mean is…we make it our business to GET you and KEEP you prepared for whatever supply chain challenges come your way. Whether you’re a Supply Chain practitioner, an academic or student, the supply chain community represented by CSCMP cares about you, your professional development and your success. Let’s stay connected!

Due to the complexity of LTL shipments and its pricing structure you may be spending more than you need and missing out on valuable margin dollars for your business. Many companies don’t know how much they are truly spending and more importantly, how much they could potentially save. For small to mid-size companies that don’t have a Transportation Team on staff, effectively managing your supply chain is full of challenges. Our experience shows that if you are actively shipping multiple LTL shipments a day, the manual process can become quite daunting for your existing shipping group. Written by CSCMP Corporate Member, Dave Maddox, Senior Vice President Sales Supply Chain, nVision Global.

"I joined in 2000 based on people I knew in the local SoCal Roundtable. I was seeking to increase my engagement in the industry. CSCMP members should understand they will get back what they put into their membership as a multiple. Pick your spots, do fun stuff, meet people, and help push things forward. Career growth will happen indirectly once you become known as a contributor and establish yourself as a thought leader and team player. You may get your next job, or find that key employee (as I did) through CSCMP. Customers may find you. You will learn about areas adjacent to your primary field and that will deepen your knowledge base."

Like dominos falling in succession, the world’s 4th largest container transportation and shipping firm, CMA CGM, has become the latest casualty joining AP Moller-Maersk, MSC, and Chinese COSCO Shipping Lines on the growing list of Maritime cyber victims. The CMA CGM attack is a reminder to shipping operators of the very real threat and danger posed by cybercriminals today. What we know so far
The CMA CGM attack, at first reported as an “internal IT infrastructure issue” on September 28, 2020, was later confirmed to be indeed a ransomware attack. The attack affected the Marseille-based company’s peripheral servers as well as the infrastructure of their international offices including their Chinese and Australian branches. Fifteen percent of all registration fees will be donated to ALAN - The American Logistics Aid Network. ALAN is an industry-wide organization that exists to provide supply chain assistance to disaster relief organizations (and other non-profits). Growth rates in the logistics industry are roaring. Continuing its swift recovery from April’s all-time low overall score of 51.3, the LMI® registered at 70.5 in September, its first entry in the 70’s since October 2018. September’s robust readings are driven primarily by the tightening capacity in both transportation and warehousing as the demand for logistics services increases ahead of Q4.
