CSCMP Announces New Transportation Center of Excellence ─ A Message from Chair Todd D. Bulmash

CSCMP's excited to share the news about the future of NASSTRAC. For nearly 70 years, NASSTRAC has provided shippers with education and advocacy opportunities. In 2018, NASSTRAC merged with the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) in order to better serve shippers across the United States.

We've seen unprecedented strain on the transportation industry over the last two years, and now it's more important than ever that shippers and carriers band together for the greater good. With the changes that have taken place in the global markets, we see many shippers expanding in markets that extend past the U.S. borders.

In short, the transportation industry is changing. Therefore, now is the time for NASSTRAC to evolve and meet the challenges of the future by fully integrating into CSCMP's membership.

NASSTRAC is being reimagined as the CSCMP Transportation Center of Excellence:

The Transportation Center of Excellence exists to be CSCMP’s preeminent resource for knowledge, information and education pertaining to all modes, technologies, regulatory issues and professional development pertaining to freight management for global supply chains.

Shippers, carriers, academics, and practitioners who all exist in the transportation space are welcome to take advantage of all that the Transportation Center of Excellence has to offer.

The Transportation Center of Excellence will recognize companies or individuals that have excelled and created long-term impacts on the transportation industry with an annual Transportation Excellence Award named after NASSTRAC’s former Executive Director, Gail Rutkowski.

This is a small sample of the changes that are to come. More information will be communicated later this autumn. Congrats to CSCMP Board Member Donna Palumbo-Miele ─ A 2022 Women in Supply Chain Winner!

Supply & Demand Chain Executive, the only publication covering the entire global supply chain, selected CSCMP Board Secretary and Treasurer and Principal & CEO of Concordia Supply Chain Group, LLC, Donna Palumbo-Miele, as a recipient of the 2022 Women in Supply Chain award.

The Women in Supply Chain award honors female supply chain leaders and executives whose accomplishments, mentorship and examples set a foundation for women in all levels of a company’s supply chain network. "I first joined CSCMP in 2019. I did so because I was doing research for a project and realized that I kept seeing people and podcasts that would reference CSCMP. I looked into the organization and met with some local people here in AR. Jump in with both feet. Watch the seminars. Read the journals. Devour everything you can because in our industry, creative insight is the one thing they can never automate. Creativity is a seed that needs to germinate in the rich soil of knowledge.

From a networking perspective, it has been challenging lately, but even still, go to roundtables, find local members, and introduce yourself.

I use my membership in CSCMP to reach out to Roundtable leaders in parts of the country where my professional network is weak or where I'd like it to grow. It doesn't always work, but sometimes, it leads to great connects and friends. I've learned a lot and made some great professional opportunities from my connections."

LMI® at 59.7

According to the August Logistics Manager’s Index Report^®, the overall LMI reads in at 59.7, down from July’s reading of 60.7. This is the first time that the overall index has been in the 50’s since May of 2020 at the height of the COVID-19 lockdown. This is down 14.1 points from this time last year, and 6.3 down from this time in 2020. The overall index showed steady growth in the 70’s for more than a year from February 2021 to March 2022. Since that time the trendline shows a stead downward curve, dropping 16.5 points in the last five months. The pace of this decline has slowed. The pre-pandemic average for this metric was 61.9.

CSCMP and the CSCMP Ukraine Roundtable have established the CSCMP Talent Center Ukraine Logistics Operations Relief Fund in support of those pre-qualified service providers who deliver medical and food relief to the millions of people affected by the war in Ukraine. We stand with our CSCMP Roundtable community in Ukraine, our members, friends, and colleagues and support their right to live peacefully in a sovereign, free country without the threat of coercion. Please make a tax-deductible contribution to the CSCMP Talent Center Ukraine Logistics Operations Relief Fund enabling medical and food relief to the affected people of Ukraine.
