Source: SaltWire Network CanSIA commends the province for introducing changes to the Nova Scotia Electricity Act, which will create the Green Choice Program and enable the province to move forward with its agreement with the federal government to procure 100% renewable electricity for all federally owned facilities by 2022. CanSIA also encourages the province to make further changes to the Act that would enable Virtual Net Metering - also known as community solar - which gives customers of all types and sizes a way to lower their electricity bill without the upfront costs or having to install a solar system on their home, building or property.

Source: The Globe and Mail A pilot project near Taber will soon be home to the municipality's pilot project in converting abandoned oil wells that cannot be, or have not been, restored to their original state. If all goes well in this project, the municipal government is hoping to expand across the municipality's 3000 inadtive oil and gas wells. “The infrastructure is there, the road into the lease is there, the electrical poles are all still there, so why not turn it into something else and use it for something beneficial?” -Merrill Harris, the reeve of the Municipal District of Taber
Source: CBC News The White River First Nation have announced plans to build a 1.5 MW solar PV farm near Beaver Creek. The farm, which would also be connected with 4 MWh of storage, could potentially help the community reduce their use of diesel fuel by 60% and would cut approximately 970 tonnes of GHGs.

Preparations for Electricity Transformation Canada (ETC) are still underway. We are currently monitoring public health advisories regarding COVID-19 and are hopeful that it will be safe to proceed with ETC, Canada's largest renewable energy conference and exhibition. To move things forward, we are now accepting abstracts for the conference. ETC will bring together wind energy, solar energy, energy storage and complementary themes - from transportation electrification to smart grid and digitalization to the evolving role of customers - all in one landmark event.
