Over the past week there have been quite a few articles regarding the release of the Road Charge Final Report. The report explains California’s commitment to investigate a long-term, sustainable transportation funding mechanism. The Pilot Program was the largest road charge research effort to date, with over 5,000 participating statewide vehicles, reporting in excess of 37 million miles driven over the nine-month pilot. Updates to CTA members on the Pilot Program have been provided over the past couple of years through various avenues including numerous 5th Wheel and Caltrux articles as well as updates given at each Highway Policy Committee meeting. CTA’s Board approved CTA being a member of the Road Charge Pilot Program’s Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) as well as supporting a sample size of commercial trucks participating in the Pilot Program. Multiple CTA members participated in the Pilot Program. The logic behind both positions was to ensure the trucking industry had a seat at the table, explore how the pilot program was being drafted and advocating on behalf of the industry the long standing industry concerns about a road charge type system. A summary of the report will be provided at the upcoming Highway Policy Committee meeting during the 2018 Annual Membership Conference at the Monterey Plaza Hotel. The Highway Policy Committee will be meeting Sunday, January 21st at 11:10am. To view a copy of the report click here. For more information contact Eric Sauer at esauer@caltrux.org.
