On September 24, 2018, ATA filed a petition with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) seeking determination that California's meal-and rest-break rules may not be enforced on commercial drivers who are subject to Federal hours of service regulations. Following the petition, the FMCSA quickly opened up a comment period regarding the petition. View FMCSA Petition
The deadline to submit comments is Monday, October 29, 2018. CTA strongly encourages you to submit comments before the comment period closes. As a member of the California trucking industry, your input matters and can directly impact changes to the Meal and Rest Break rules.
Since 2011, because of its incompatibility with Federal rules, California’s meal and rest break rules have posed safety issues and hindered interstate commerce for the trucking industry. The comment period is your to opportunity to influence the FMCSA and express the safety hazards that your company and drivers face on a day to day basis because of the conflicting rules.
Please share this message with your Safety Managers and drivers and encourage them to provide comments and share their safety concerns. This is a California issue that needs to be fixed!
