Announcing the CTA Northern California Driver of the Year 2018

Saturday, November 3, professional truck driver Robert St. John of Devine Intermodal was named Northern California’s Truck Driver of the Year at California Trucking Association’s Annual Driver of the Month/Driver of the Year Awards Banquet at the Hilton Arden West in Sacramento, CA.

Mr. Robert St. John is a line driver with a career of over 28 years of commercial driving. He is 2.5 million miles accident and citation free. Robert is Devine’s Lead Driver Trainer. He participates in every event asked of him. He has brought his truck and expertise to multiple CTA training events. Robert has put over two and a half million miles on California roadways without a single collision. For the past 28 years, Robert has passed three California inspection facilities on a daily basis - Cordelia, Auburn, and Truckee – with zero violations. Passing Cordelia once without a violation is commendable, 28 years is as close to impossible as you can get.
Robert traverses Donner Summit twice daily, five days a week. Rain, sleet or snow, Robert is safely moving 80,000 pounds over some of the most congested and challenging roadways in the country. Robert works 14 hour days, 70 hour weeks in California traffic and still parks his truck with a smile every day.
He receives hundreds of phone calls every week from driver trainees. He has taught hundreds of drivers how to navigate the convoluted jungle that is the Port of Oakland. Robert is also a rolling diesel mechanic. He repairs all issues himself. If you are ever stuck on Donner Summit trying to figure out how to put those chains on, look for the blue truck, number 439. That’s Robert, the most helpful driver on the road.
