Implementation Date: January 1, 2019
New Policy
Effective January 1, 2019, an International Registration Plan (IRP) carrier may present either a paper or electronic IRP cab card. All participating IRP member jurisdictions are required to accept electronic images of IRP cab cards, if presented, as evidence ofapportioned registration. IRP carriers will no longer be required to carry a paper IRP cab card.
IRP Carrier Procedures
Store or save electronic documents in a portable document format (PDF) or other file format, to ensure access to credentials while in areas without wireless Internet and/or network connections (for example, WiFi). If evidence of registration cannot be presentedto law enforcement, you may be cited and required to present proof of registration in a court of law.
Background
IRP Ballot 412 (Electronic Image of Cab Card) was approved in 2017 and requires base jurisdictions to issue evidence of registration for apportioned vehicles registered under the plan. This policy change is intended to allow IRP registrants and jurisdictions more flexibility in issuing and presenting evidence of registration.
