FMCSA Scheduled to Release Hours of Service Proposed Rulemaking on July 31

The introduction of electronic logging devices and their ability to accurately record hours-of-service (HOS) compliance for drivers of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) have prompted numerous requests from Congress and the public for FMCSA to consider revising certain HOS provisions. In order to create a proposed rule that would fit the needs of the industry, FMCSA sought input from the public last year on proposed HOS changes. FMCSA received over 5200 public comments. FMCSA has gone through the comments and feedback they have received and are projecting that they will release their proposal to alter federal hours of service regulations on July 31.
