Truckers Descend On the Capitol - Photos Included
Last week CTA held its California Trucking Day in Sacramento. Over 100 CTA members registered to attend the event which is by far the most the Association has had in years. Members who did attend were not disappointed, maybe a little because of the hot weather, but were treated to an all star slate of speakers.
The morning session included an SB 1 "Transportation Funding Package" panel discussion that included Assembly Transportation Committee Chairperson Jim Frazier and Senate Transportation and Housing Committee Chairperson Jim Beall. Following the panel discussion, Assembly Member Vince Fong discussed his efforts on PAGA reform. Then taking his turn, Assembly "Mod" Caucus Convener Adam Gray spoke to attendees and acknowledged his appreciation for being a friend to the industry. Rob Lapsley, President of the California Business Roundtable informed members of what type of political pitfalls and regulatory measures the California business community may be facing following next year’s elections.

Earlier in the morning CTA was made aware that the President Pro Tempore Kevin DeLeon had asked to present to CTA during its lunch regarding his proposal and concepts on dispersing Cap and Trade Funds to the trucking industry. Following the President Pro Tem’s speech, members heard from the 2017 California Trucking Day Keynote Speaker, CalSTA Secretary Brian Kelly. Secretary Kelly provided members a summary of SB 1 and how and when transportation funds will be distributed in the coming months. He thanked CTA for its efforts on helping with the passage of this landmark measure.

Following the morning briefings members were "turned lose" and were sent to the Capitol for afternoon meetings with their elected officials. CTA members met with 52 offices. Most if not all of the meetings had the Senator or Assembly Member in the meeting.

Immediately following the meetings attendees were treated to a hosted reception at the Citizen Hotel where they enjoyed mingling with many of the elected officials they met earlier in the day during the capitol visits. CTA would like to acknowledge and thank the Units that stepped up to President Britton’s Trucking Day Unit Challenge. Units contributed over $8,000 to Trucking Day and because of their support the 2017 CTA Trucking Day will go down as one of the best and well attended days at the Capitol.
