Do you have a company policy in place to prevent distracted driving?

During the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's (CVSA) safe driving enforcement week, officers will be issuing citations for unsafe and distracted driving behaviors. The CVSA is focusing on driver behavior because it is considered responsible for more than 88% of heavy truck crashes according to the latest Large Truck Causation Study by the Federal Motor Carrier Administration.

Distracted driving includes any activity that takes the driver's eyes and attention off the road and hands off the wheel. Texting is especially dangerous because sending or reading a text message for 5 seconds at 55 mph is like driving the length of a football field blindfolded.

Clear policies and incentives for safe driving behavior are effective in changing distracted driving. Education, technology and enforcement help to reinforce a culture where traffic safety is a priority.
