City of Whittier Prohibiting Trucks on Main Road

Recently, a CTA member informed the Government Affairs team that the City of Whittier is planning to restrict vehicles access on a main avenue that connects member warehouses between the city and neighboring Sante Fe Springs. The City of Whittier received complaints from residents of Norwalk Boulevard that our member’s trucks would frequently use the street and cause excessive noise.

This prompted a resolution to be presented at the Parking and Transportation Commission to prohibit vehicles over 3 tons from using Norwalk Boulevard at any time. However, the member does not run their trucks at night and only during the mornings and daytime.

CTA submitted a letter and provided public comment urging the Commission to reconsider the blanketed approach since the resolution affects the member’s most direct route to legally utilize and will add additional miles traveled, truck traffic on the freeway, and time which impacts a driver’s record of on-duty status governed through the Hours-of-Service regulations.

Unfortunately, the Commission passed the resolution, and it will head to the city council for debate.

CTA will update our members on our efforts to resolve this issue with the city council.
