San Diego County Transportation (Move) Permit Update

A few months back CTA was made aware of issues some heavy specialized carrier members were encountering with San Diego County’s new transportation (move) permit policies.

In addition to the $212 “structural and clearance review” fee (deposit), the amount of time carriers have been subject to on getting a permit has become an issue. Carrier members informed CTA that in some cases they were waiting more than 4 weeks to get a permit processed by the county.

This is obviously an issue, especially for carriers whose permits from Caltrans are good for up to 5 days to make a move. In response to a letter CTA sent, a meeting with the County was scheduled.

Earlier last week, CTA along with carrier members Marco Transportation, Reeve Trucking and RD Reed and representatives from the Southern California Contractors Association (SCCA) met with representatives from San Diego County’s  Department of Public Works to discuss the issues. During the meeting the County agreed to work with industry on make their process a more expedited process.

Future meetings and updates on the San Diego County issues will occur. In the meantime if you are experiencing delays on obtaining a transportation permit from San Diego let CTA know.
