Heavy Duty Inspection & Maintenance Certify Device, Release Tester Training
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) announced the first certification of an On-Board Diagnostic (OBD) device to comply with the Heavy Duty Inspection & Maintenance (HD I/M) regulation. The Silver Snap-Tool can be purchased for $500 and an going $500 annual fee for the telematic software that submits data to CARB.
CARB is unsure how many other devices will be certified, but expects others to qualify. All CARB certified OBD devices will be listed
on their website.
The HD I/M Tester Training and Examination is now available for anyone to qualify as a certified HD I/M tester. You must complete CARB’s free online training course and pass the exam. You can find more information and take the exam online on
CARB’s website.
