Last week CTA President Greg Dubuque (Liberty Linehaul West) along with CTA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Eric Sauer, met virtually with FMCSA Deputy Administrator Meera Joshi and members of her staff during her visit to California to tour the Otay Mesa region. The Deputy Administrator requested the meeting with CTA and wanted the opportunity to have a discussion on truck safety, driver shortage and retention.
President Dubuque did an excellent job providing his perspective on the struggles his company has had finding drivers as well as the burdens that lead to prospective drivers wanting to become a truck driver. Both he and CTA said the Drive Safe Act would provide a pathway to attracting younger drivers into the industry. Deputy Administrator and her team appreciated the feedback on the topics and looks forward to working with CTA during her term leading the FMCSA.
The California Air Resources Board (CARB) is hosting a virtual public workshop to review and discuss the proposed Advanced Clean Fleets (ACF) regulation. The workshop will be held on September 2 from 9am-4pm via GoToWebinar. You will need to register to attend the meeting.
The workshop discussion will focus on reviewing the proposed regulatory language and the cost implications to develop the Standardized Regulatory Impact Assessment (SRIA). You will have the opportunity to comment or ask questions related to the draft regulation language. The meeting materials will be posted in advance of the meeting closer to the workshop date.

There will be an open Question and Answer Forum where you will have a chance to ask decision makers about important issues affecting the transportation industry. This event is free to all members!
The San Pedro Bay ports (Port of Los Angeles and Port of Long Beach) will host two public stakeholder outreach workshops to solicit feedback and recommendations on the development of specific implementation details of the ports’ Clean Truck Fund (CTF) Rate and CTF spending plan. Both open to the public, the first meeting is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 26, at 9 a.m. via Zoom, with the second meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 4:30 p.m. via Zoom. Spanish translation will be provided at both meetings.
The first meeting will discuss policies related to low-NOx trucks and a spending plan for the CTF. The second meeting will discuss potential equity issues of the proposed CTF Rate, with a particular focus on the impacts to drayage truck drivers.
