Last Friday, CTA's CEO Eric Sauer was the featured guest on Road Dog Trucking. During this interview, Sauer spoke about his new role as ceo for the association and his vision for the future.
He also provided an update on the status of AB 5 after the Supreme Court's denial to hear CTA v. Bonta, the association's case challenging the new classification tests codified by this measure.
The Innovative Small E-Fleet (ISEF) Set-Aside is a small funding source separate from the larger HVIP program exclusively for small fleets.
Voucher applications will open at 1pm on Wednesday, August 31.
A fleet with 20 or fewer trucks and less than $15 million in revenue can qualify for ISEF funding for Class 6-8 zero-emission trucks and for zero-emission charging infrastructure. There is a total $25 million available on a first-come, first served basis.
Class 6-7 trucks have a maximum voucher amount of $170,000 and Class 8 trucks have a maximum voucher amount of $240,000.
In an attempt to assist the tens of thousands of independent drivers affected by the implementation of AB 5 on the trucking industry, the California Office of the Small Business Advocate (CalOSBA) has developed a guide.
As described by CalOSBA: This Quick Start Guide is only one source of information among the many sources that are available to you. You may wish to consider multiple sources to make an informed decision. You are solely responsible for deciding how to form and create your business. You are responsible for determining whether the information you obtain through your use of this guide is suitable for your purposes.
Be assured that CTA continues to advocate for additional claritiy on how independent drivers can comply with AB 5 and will provide our members with information as it becomes available.

CTA is pleased to announce that Eric Sauer has been selected as its new Chief Executive Officer. Sauer assumed his new role as the head of the association effective August 8, 2022. He has been with the CTA since 2001.
“Eric is the right leader for CTA,” said Greg Dubuque, CTA’s Chairman of the Board. “His extensive work and knowledge within the association along with his strong leadership skills will help strengthen partnerships, develop strategic alliances and expand both our membership and CTA’s footprint in the trucking industry at both a state and national level.”
With more than two decades of senior management experience within CTA, Sauer is uniquely equipped with the skillset and institutional knowledge of California’s trucking industry. In his most recent role as senior vice president of government affairs, Eric oversaw the strategic development and plan execution for CTA’s advocacy and regulatory goals.
“For more than 21 years I have had the privilege of representing and working on behalf of an industry that provides so much to this state,” said Sauer. “I am truly honored to lead our dynamic membership and the talented team we have in place.”
