We are pleased to announce that last week, AB 2406 passed out of the Senate on a unanimous vote (40 – 0) and cleared the Assembly on concurrence.
Since AB 2406 was amended, this measure returned to the Assembly for a final concurrence vote to accept amendments taken in the Senate. The measure is now on the governor’s office waiting for a signature or a veto.
This morning the CTA Government Affairs Team sent the governor a letter requesting his signature on AB 2406.
Governor Newsom has until September 30 to either sign or veto legislation that passed both houses.
Essentially what the bill does is tighten up the provisions from a previous CTA bill, SB 45 that addresses the outrageous detention and demurrage fees that many intermodal carrier members are subject to.
As most of you know, running a bill is an extremely tough and arduous process, especially in California. Getting it to the point where it is now is even tougher.
Kudos to the CTA Government Affairs team and our members for their efforts shepherding the bill (literally unscathed) through the legislative process.
Should the bill be signed, we will provide a fact sheet summarizing the changes that AB 2406 makes to SB 45.
