Every winter season creates challenges for our industry and the trucks that have to travel over California's high elevation mountain passes in order to make their deliveries. With the 2016-2017 winter months rapidly approaching, I'd like to call your attention to the Pusher Truck Program, one of the many CTA member benefits that makes a difference for hundreds of trucking companies each year as they pass the tough mountain climb on Interstate 80.
Last week the California Road Charge Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) met in Riverside, CA. The TAC heard an update on the progress of the Road Charge Pilot Program that commenced in July of 2016. As you know CTA’s Board approved CTA participating in the pilot. Currently there are 8 trucking companies participating in the pilot which accounts for the 55 trucks included in the pilot. Timeline for the pilot program includes a report produced by the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) being sent to the Legislature in June of 2017. The legislature will make its recommendations in December 2017. Carriers have just about a year to switch over to electronic logs. These new technology-based time recording systems will require many carriers to make significant changes to how they operate. Even for smaller companies, the transition is likely to take longer than expected. The good news is that there’s still time to do it right. The key is careful planning and starting soon.

If you are a carrier member looking to receive the 6% discount, you should have your insurance agent submit to Berkshire Hathaway direct or through an MGA in order to receive the discount - just make sure they indicate the submission as a CTA member. If your agent doesn't have a direct access point to BHHC, they can access the BHHC discount programs through an MGA.
