CTA in Action: Government Affairs Update
2017 was one of the California Trucking Association's (CTA's) most successful legislative sessions in recent years in the State Capitol. Thanks to your involvement throughout the year and Legislators willing to listen to the industries concerns, CTA was able to successfully work on several board approved priorities. Some of these include:
* $5.2 billion annual infrastructure package with no new weight, VLF or registration fees.
* Regulatory certainty for fleets upgrading to new, clean trucks.
* $400 million in new truck incentives.
* Tied compliance with ARB Truck and Bus Rule to DMV truck registration.
* Reduced wait times for CDL drive tests from 90 days to below 20 days at every DMV facility.
Below is a link that walks you through many of the priority bills that CTA was extensively engaged on. As always feel free to contact Matt Roman, (916) 373-3570, with any questions you may have.
The annual Caltrans I-80 "Donner Pass" Winter Operations meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 2nd in Kingvale at the Caltrans Maintenance facility located on 51121 Donner Pass Rd. in Soda Springs, CA. The meeting is scheduled to begin at 1pm. Caltrans will discuss their 2017-2018 winter operations for the region and will answer any related questions. If you operate on the Donner pass corridor this meeting is a must attend.
Compliance and Regulatory News
How familiar are you with Federal Motor Carriers Safety Administration’s (FMCSA) HOS Rules and Regulations? The FMCSA has updated the HOS section of their website to include a pre-recorded webinar titled "Hours of Service: How Familiar Are You?" The Hours of Service regulations address the number of hours that a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) driver may be on the road and the number of hours a CMV driver may be on duty before a required period of rest.
When you head out on the road, it pays off to plan a safe and efficient route to your end
destination. The more you prepare ahead of time, the more you will ensure you are ready to tackle those potential bumps and challenges that inevitably lie ahead on your journey. This same principle applies to your electronic logging device (ELD) adoption and implementation. Read the full educational article provided by EROAD, CTA Winner Circle Club Partner.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) transitioned to its new leadership for the 2017-2018 term on Sept. 20, 2017, at the CVSA Annual Conference and Exhibition in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada. Capt. Christopher Turner of the Kansas Highway Patrol is the new president of the Alliance. Capt. Scott Carnegie of the Mississippi Highway Patrol is CVSA’s vice president. Sgt. John Samis of the Delaware State Police was elected by the membership to the position of secretary.
