CTA in Action: Government Affairs Update
Over the past week there have been quite a few articles regarding the release of the Road Charge Final Report. The report explains California’s commitment to investigate a long-term, sustainable transportation funding mechanism. The Pilot Program was the largest road charge research effort to date, with over 5,000 participating statewide vehicles, reporting in excess of 37 million miles driven over the nine-month pilot.
Earlier this week Caltrans hosted the kickoff meeting for its California Truck Parking Technical Advisory Committee (TAC). Included on the TAC is Caltrans, CHP, CTA and quite a few CTA members. The kickoff meeting included a presentation by the American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) on truck parking studies they have conducted, input from the industry on the truck parking issues they face and what the goals are for the TAC.
The $1 billion Proposition 1B: Goods Movement Emission Reduction Program is a partnership between the State Air Resources Board (ARB) and local agencies (like air districts and seaports) to quickly reduce air pollution emissions and health risk from freight movement along California’s trade corridors.

CTA would like to pass along its condolences to San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee’s family in recognition of his passing on December 11th. CTA has been a partner with the City of San Francisco’s Vision Zero safety campaign which was a priority of the Mayor. CTA always appreciated the Mayor’s open door policy to discuss issues with CTA and its members. He will be dearly missed.
Every winter season creates challenges for our industry and the trucks that have to travel over California's high elevation mountain passes in order to make their deliveries. With the 2017-2018 winter months upon us, I'd like to call your attention to the California Trucking Association’s (CTA) Pusher Truck Program, one of the many CTA member benefits that makes a difference for thousands of trucking companies each year as they pass the tough mountain climb on Interstate 80.
