CTA in Action: Government Affairs Update

Last year, we briefed the membership on a bill introduced by Assemblymember Lorena Gonzalez Fletcher, AB 5. AB 5 would have mandated employers with as few as 10 employees to offer hours of work that become available to existing employees before hiring a new employee, temporary employee or contractor.
The U. S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) is launching a multi-modal initiative, including two pilot programs, to modernize its data analysis and integrate its traditional data sets with new "big data" sources to gain insights into transportation safety and create new multi-dimensional models of the transportation system. The initial focus of the effort is on gaining insights that will help drive down highway fatalities. Read full article

Compliance and Regulatory News
CTA
has been receiving a few calls from members asking when the ELD mandate will be
implemented (enforceable) in California for intrastate drivers. As was reported
previously, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) has until February of 2019 to
adopt and implement the ELD regulations for purely intrastate drivers. However,
CTA is advising intrastate drivers to be prepared leading up to February 2019,
the CHP could adopt them earlier than February. CTA will continue to update

San Francisco Chronicle (Jan. 10) --A measure to raise Bay Area bridge tolls to $9 on the Bay Bridge and $8 on others over several years took a major step forward Wednesday when a key transportation committee unanimously recommended putting it before voters in June. Read full article
