This week, the American Trucking Associations and 22 State Trucking Associations, including California, filed an amicus brief in support of JB Hunt’s request to the Supreme Court to hear J.B. Hunt v. Ortega. J.B. Hunt Transport Inc. is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to exempt truckers from California’s law on meal and rest breaks and certain provisions of the state’s wage and labor law.

The winter storm season is upon us. With the unpredictable storms its sometimes hard to know when roads are closed, when chains are required and what detours to take. For the past few years CTA has partnered with Caltrans on providing the trucking industry with the most up to date road conditions on the Donner Pass region. Caltrans’ Kingvale Communications Center releases up to date information through their e-mail distribution system. The end of February marked the official deadline to introduce new legislation for the Assembly and Senate. Combined, the two houses introduced 2,202 new pieces of legislation. CTA staff has sifted through the mountain of bills to find the ones that will impact the trucking industry, good and bad.

The meeting is on Thursday, March 29 and will be a lunch meeting in Fresno. A representative from the California Highway Patrol will be presenting to the Unit on important ELD information and requirements. Register here

CTA recently took ownership of 2 newer Pusher Trucks that will be placed into service on the Donner Pass I-80 corridor. The current trucks will be scrapped and critical pusher truck parts will be transferred to the new trucks. The trucks are in the process of being transferred from a FedEx facility in Southern California to Superior Equipment Truck and Repair in Newcastle California where they will be fabricated and become road worthy pusher trucks. Thank you FedEx for donating the new trucks!!!!!
