CTA recently introduced AB 2564, authored by Assemblymembers Freddie Rodriguez and Eloise Reyes, to address the growing concerns of the use of glider kits within California. A glider vehicle is a truck that utilizes a previously owned powertrain (including the engine) but which has new body parts. The engines utilized in gliders may lack modern emission controls, resulting in up to 450x the diesel particulates of a compliant engine.

Summer is approaching and the past few summers have shown that the risk of heat illness from high temperatures is one of the most serious challenges to the safety and health of workers. Heat Illness prevention standards apply to the trucking industry and violations of the standards can lead to large fines and employee health issues. Cal/OSHA, will be presenting on the health effects of heat, how to respond to symptoms, and how to prevent heat exhaustion. California Trucking Day is on Tuesday, May 8 and the CTA Room Block at The Sawyer Hotel ends on April 9. Volunteers needed for CTA’s Southern California Truck Driving Championships, Saturday April 21 at the Auto Club Speedway Fontana. No experience necessary. Will train on site. All volunteers receive an event T-shirt & lunch.

The final day to turn in applications for the Southern CA Truck Driving Championships is Friday, April 13 by 5:00 p.m., no late applications will be accepted. The California Truck Driving Championships are organized to recognize and promote safe driving and professionalism in the transportation industry.

CTA and member Mountain Valley Express have again partnered with the Safety Center and their "Safe Driving Starts Young" event for the past three years. CTA member Mountain Valley Express will be lending its "No Zone" themed trailer and truck for the event.
