The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has granted National Tank Truck Carriers (NTTC) and the Trucking Association of Massachusetts’ hours of service exemption request for fuel haulers. In August 2017, the two groups asked that FMCSA issue an exemption from the 30-minute rest break requirement for certain fuel haulers using the hours of service exception referred to as the "twelve-hour," "short haul," or "100 air-mile" exception.

Statewide Event Calendar
Join the Bay Area Unit for an informative and enjoyable day at the track! This is our annual law update where a panel of experts will provide their views on legal challenges. Matt Roman, CTA Director of Legislative Affairs, will be giving a legislative update and we will also have an update from officer Mark Fisher in the Golden Gate Division’s Commercial Industry Education Program (CIEP). The presentation will conclude with a question and answer panel for guests. Register
Summer is approaching and the past few summers have shown that the risk of heat illness from high temperatures is one of the most serious challenges to the safety and health of workers. Heat Illness prevention standards apply to the trucking industry and violations of the standards can lead to large fines and employee health issues. Cal/OSHA, will be presenting on the health effects of heat, how to respond to symptoms, and how to prevent heat exhaustion. Register
Upcoming Events
Come out and watch the "Best of the West" at this Saturday’s Southern CA Truck Driving Championships at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Lot #6. There is no charge for admission or parking. Spectators are encouraged and welcome to attend. We have over 500 drivers this year so competition will be fierce!
The purpose of the Road Charge Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) is to explore a road charge type system as a possible replacement to the current fuel tax mechanism for transportation funding. As you know CTA is one of two "road user representatives" on the TAC. The next Road Charge TAC meeting will be held on Friday, April 20 from 10:00 am to 2:30 pm.

The Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC) in cooperation with Caltrans is undertaking the West Grand Avenue On-ramp Improvements – Bus Lane Project (Project) in the City of Oakland, Alameda County. The Project is intended to increase transbay person throughput by providing access and operational improvements for buses and high occupancy vehicles (HOVs), through conversion of approximately 1,300 feet of the right shoulder on the West Grand Avenue on-ramp and northbound I-880 connector approach to the San Francisco Oakland Bay Bridge (SFOBB), to a Bus Lane, which will be opened to HOVs during the peak periods.
CTA Highlights
The Bay Area Unit hosted a meeting last week at the Port of Oakland where they learned about new expansions and got the opportunity to network with the Port of Oakland staff and their fellow unit members.
The LA/Orange Unit held their Steering/Planning Committee Meeting last week at The Double Tree in Norwalk. Steering/Planning Committees are the governing body of the Unit.
