Last week the FMCSA released an advance copy of their Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPRM) seeking public comment on revising current Hours-of-Service Regulations for Interstate Truck Drivers. The formal notice was published on August 23rd, with a 30-day comment period starting from the day of publication. The deadline to submit comments is September 24th. You (your company) are encouraged to file comments directly with FMCSA. FMCSA wants to hear from the trucking industry.

Small and medium-size truck fleets are often challenged when it comes to maintaining good safety scores. These scores can affect their ongoing operations and ability to bypass weigh stations with services like PrePass. Unique challenges facing these carriers include insufficient Inspection Selection System (ISS) data due to lower frequency of inspections, and greater impacts to their scores resulting from violations or crashes.

The National Truck Driving Championships took place August 15-18 at the Columbus Convention Center in Columbus, Ohio. Professional truck drivers compete for the title of National Champion in the eight different truck classes and one step van class, with one driver taking home the overall title of 2018 National Truck Driving Championships Bendix Grand Champion.

Heavy Highway Vehicle Use Tax Return, Form 2290 is due on August 31st. If you are a carrier with vehicles weighing 55,000 lbs or more which were used on a public highway after July 2017, you must file a 2290 form.
