CTA in Action: Government Affairs Update
A federal district judge found the ABC test preempted by the FAAAA. This is a great development for us and strengthens our path to victory on litigation. However, we still have a ways to go and we are urging members to financially support our litigation efforts today.
The California legislature reconvened on December 3rd and two bills have already been introduced on the Dynamex issue. Most importantly, Asssemblymember Lorena Gonzalez introduced Assembly Bill 5 to codify the ABC test into state law.
The developments noted above clearly illustrate the importance of the CTA’s Dynamex lawsuit.
We will not be able to defeat the Dynamex Decision without your help.
Compliance and Regulatory News
The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) is asking truck drivers to take a new survey on truck parking. The results will be used to update the inventory of truck parking and identify improvements to truck parking availability since the first survey in 2015; evaluate truck travel by state to evaluate increases in truck parking demand; evaluate the types of technology being used to monitor availability and demand; and compile truck parking plans, studies and projects completed by states and metropolitan planning organizations. Please forward the below survey to your drivers. The survey should only take about five to seven minutes to complete. No personally identifying information is collected, and if provided, it will not be identified when FHWA analyzes results. Last Friday, FMCSA published a notice officially announcing the denial of 10 applications for exemptions from the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) rule. The applicants came from organizations including: Owner- Operator Independent Drivers Association, Inc., Towing and Recovery Association of America, and SikhsPAC and North American Punjabi Trucker Association.

CTA’s Allied Conference is doing it again! One of the most popular functions held during California Trucking Association’s Annual Membership Conference for the past few years has been the Allied Conference sponsored Championship Football Event where the suits and ties come off and so do the social barriers as members come together, not as carrier or allied, and share drinks, tail-gate themed food and camaraderie.
