CTA in Action: Government Affairs Update
  
February 22nd was the bill introduction deadline for the California Legislature and a total of 2567 bills were introduced. Eric Sauer, CTA's Senior Vice President of Government Affairs, gives a video update on some of the proposals that CTA has identified as “Priority Legislation” that have an impact on the trucking industry.
As you know the Port Of Long Beach will be closing the 9th Street At- Grade Railroad Crossing on March 9th. CTA and many of its Heavy Specialized Carrier members have been engaged with the Port since the closure was announced. Throughout the process CTA members have been working with Port staff, LB Public Works Department, CHP, Long Beach Police and the Long Beach Harbor Patrol on identifying and testing suitable alternative routes. Included in this alert is information contained in the link below that will inform you of those alternative routes.
Compliance and Regulatory News

Another California city, Alameda, adopted a new minimum wage ordinance (MWO) that takes effect in July. Last October, when then-governor Jerry Brown signed a number of bills into new laws, the Alameda City Council passed their own MWO, which will raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour by July 1, 2020. Employers in Calaveras, El Dorado, Humboldt, Los Angeles, Marin, Mendocino, Modoc, Mono, Monterey, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Mateo, Santa Barbara, Santa Clara, Shasta, Tehama, Trinity, Ventura and Yolo Counties directly affected by the recent severe winter storms, may request up to a 60-day extension of time from the EDD to file their state payroll reports and/or deposit state payroll taxes without penalty or interest. This extension may be granted under Section 1111.5 of the California Unemployment Insurance Code (CUIC). A written request for extension must be received within 60 days from the original delinquent date of the payment or return. ASSEMBLY BILL 2061 - Near-Zero-Emission and Zero-Emission Vehicles
AB 2016, to the extent expressly authorized by federal law, Fixing America's Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act), authorizes a near-zero-emission vehicle or a zero-emission vehicle, as defined in subdivisions (c) and (d) of Section 44258 of the Health and Safety Code, to exceed the weight limits on the power unit by up to 2,000 pounds.
