CTA in Action: Government Affairs Update
Why attend the Policy Committee and/or Executive Committee Meetings? Each policy meeting focuses on regulations and legislation that directly impact your business. You can attend all the meetings or only attend the ones that are of interest to you. The Executive Committee will give you a general overview of what was discussed in each policy meeting and what is going on with CTA in general. All members are welcome to attend all meetings, but only policy committee members can vote on policy issues. What is the focus of each Policy Committee meeting? What is the focus of the Executive Committee meeting? Environmental Policy Committee Meeting: Focuses on environmental regulations and legislation that impact your i.e. CARB issues, etc. Safety, Security & H.R. Policy Committee Meeting: Focuses on safety, security, and human resource regulations and legislation. During this month’s meeting, the impact of AB 5 passing and CTA’s Dynamex lawsuit will be the major focus of the meeting. Highway Policy Committee Meeting: Focuses on taxation, DMV, size/weight type regulations and legislation. During this month’s meeting, the new Deputy Director of DMV will be giving an update on all DMV related activities and process changes that impact trucking. Kingpin Committee: Focuses on CTA political engagement i.e. grassroots efforts, building relationships with legislators, etc. Executive Committee: The governing body of the association that meets between the Board of Directors and a great way to stay updated on all things CTA. Is there a cost to attend? Is there a Top Golf Event held in conjunction with the meetings? How do I register for both? Attendance is FREE for the Fall Policy and Executive Committee Meetings, but registration is required for the food headcount. These meetings also held in conjunction with the Sacramento Unit President's Reception & Allied Golf Tournament at Top Golf on Tuesday, October 22. Pre-registration and payment is required for this event. Due to the recent passage of AB 5, we have put together an AB 5 FAQ that answers the most common questions owner operators may have on the impact AB 5 will have on them and the action CTA is taking to prevent the application of the "ABC" test to the trucking industry.
