CWWA Executive Director Robert Haller, travelled to Australia with Peter Vanrolleghem and Yves Comeau of the Canadian Association for Water Quality (CAWQ) to make a pitch for Canada. The IWA hosted the World Water Congress in Brisbane October 8 to 13, inviting thousands of water experts from around the world. In advance of the conference opening, this Canadian delegation appeared before the IWA Governing Assembly to make its bid to host this event in Canada in 2022.

The world Water Congress is scheduled to be held in Tokyo, Japan in 2018 then Copenhagen, Denmark in 2020. CWWA and CAWQ, who together form the Canadian National Committee for the IWA in Canada, hope to invite the world to Toronto in 2022. The Governing Assembly did select "the Americas" as the region to host the 2022 Congress then opened the floor for interested bidders. Canada was the only bidder to make a presentation to the Assembly and we also had an exhibitor booth promoting Toronto as an excellent location. Toronto is the only known bidder at this time (although there are efforts underway to find another site to offer a competitive bid to ours.) The CWWA & CAWQ will commence an application process and negotiations with the IWA and a final decision will be made by the General Assembly by next October.

CWWA and CAWQ were most thankful for the support of the City of Toronto, Toronto Water, Tourism Toronto and the Toronto Convention Centre for their support of our bid effort.
